General Daily Schedule

8:30 to 9:00 a.m. drop off (early drop off is available if needed contact Sally for information)

9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Welcome Circle – Talking Stick Format

  • Introductions & icebreakers
  • Personal sharing & storytelling

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Daily Wellness Practice

  • 5 Tibetans Yoga
  • Jin Shin Jyutsu®
  • Guided Meditation

10:30 a.m. snack time

10:45 a.m. Morning Activity – Art. Environment or Wellness Themed

12 noon lunch

12:30 p.m. Story Relax Time

  • Reading stories, telling stories or collaborative creation of stories

1:00 p.m. Afternoon Activity (see activity lists below)

  • May be a continuation of morning’s activity or a new activity

3:00 p.m. snack & supervised but unstructured choice of activity

4:00 p.m. back to base location & closing circle

  • Talking stick format, discussing one item of interest/curiosity of the day or planning for tomorrow’s activities

4:30 to 5:15 p.m. pick up time (late pick up can be arranged contact Sally for more information)

  • Continue an activity from unstructured time while waiting for pick up

AWE Day Camps Proposed Activities

ART

  • Painting with acrylics & watercolours on various recycled surfaces
  • Tie Dying
  • casting of stepping stones
  • temporary natural sculptures using found objects
  • digital photography – developing an artist’s eye
  • other in the moment inspirations

WELLNESS

  • interesting nutrition lessons followed by recipe choosing, then a walk to the grocery/market/garden to purchase/choose ingredients then return and prepare recipe.  Followed with tasting & clean up
  • study of concept of whole wellness – body, mind & spirit

*importance of breath & use of breath for energy management

*basic anatomy (linked to the nutrition study)

*chakra study

*affirmations & self talk

*meditation & visualization

*power of the spoken word

* reciprocity, karma & respect

*emotions – their purpose & management

  • other topics as per interests of the children

ENVIRONMENT

  • discussions, demonstrations & observations of interconnectedness of all life
  • Planet Earth DVD viewings (one hour episodes) followed by animal role play & power animal dancing
  • Walks – neighbourhood to view urban ecosystems at work – Paxton’s Bush  & Thames River in Chatham, Sydenham River in Wallaceburg
  • Field trips to St. Clair NWA, nearby hobby farm & other locations
  • Ongoing gardening projects in both Wallaceburg & Chatham
  • Lawn foraging – edible plants from our yards
  • 3 R’s in action – reduce, reuse, recycle
  • learning how to use nature guides to identify different species

AWE Day Camps General Guidelines

Enrollment: 6 spaces are available each week, children must be at least 7 years of age

Duration: Day registration is based on a 5 day week- Monday to Friday

  • Week One June 28 – July 2
  • Week Two July 5 – July 9
  • Week Three July 12 – July 16
  • Week Four July 19 – July 23
  • Week Five July 26 – July 30
  • Week Six August 2 – August 6
  • Week Seven August 9 – August 13
  • Week Eight August 16 – August 20
  • Week Nine August 23 – August 27

Location: the camp base is in Wallaceburg on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays it is in Chatham (contact Sally to discuss drop off & pick up details)

Tuition: Base tuition without early or late drop off/pick up needs is $150 +HST

Early drop off is $10 + HST additional per day

Late Pick up is $10 + HST additional per day

Both early drop off & late pick up $15 + HST additional per day

Holiday Weeks (4 days) tuition is $120 + HST

Preparation: Please dress your children in weather appropriate clothing, as rain will not keep us inside.  Send along a bathing suit and towel and an extra set of clothing in a backpack. Give them a healthy (chocolate & sugar free) breakfast and send an earth friendly, nutritious lunch and snacks (reusable container filled with non-stimulating foods free of refined sugars, caffeine, chocolate and artificial colours) to help fuel your child and prepare them for creative inspiration.

Expected Behaviour: In the event of disrespectful or uncooperative behaviour that does not stop with respectful verbal mentoring the child will be dismissed from the camp and a parent will be called immediately to pick them up.
